Inflammation and chronic oral diseases
Projects on inflammation and chronic oral diseases (caries, periodontitis) is led by Jérôme Bouchet (MCFHDR) and Marjolaine Gosset (PUPH-DDS). This research theme is crucial, as these pathologies were classified by the WHO as a burden affecting at some point in their lives almost all populations in France, Europe and worldwide, with a strong impact on quality of life and comorbidities. This group combine basic and clinical research strengths around pulp and/or periodontal inflammation in response to infection. The research is based on cellular models (pulp organoids, inflammatory cell/bone cell cocultures), preclinical models of pulp and periodontal inflammation/infection perfectly mastered by our researchers, as well as biological collections of periodontal tissues and biological fluids (blood, saliva). The group also work on patient cohorts, in collaboration with the CRESS-UMR1153 unit (paediatric cohorts -Elfe,Epipage-) for caries, and generalist epidemiological cohorts (Constance) or specific cohorts for chronic diseases (ComPaRe). As caries and periodontitis have a strong impact on general health, we are involved in clinical trials in cardiology and gastroenterology (RHU iVasc, Periogut), as well as in observational studies of patients with chronic diseases (cystic fibrosis, Sjögren’s disease, Wilson’s disease and other copper diseases), in collaboration with the reference centres for these diseases.
Finally, the group is involved in several scientific consortiums, including the FHU PaCeMM, the Labex “Inflamex”, the Instituts Hors Murs of UPCité for microbiology, immunology and cardiology and the European Federation of Periodontology.
