Welcome to the website of the Oral Health Laboratory (UMRS INSERM 1333), which is based at the University Paris Cité’s Dental School.
The laboratory’s central focus is the study of orofacial tissues and their reconstruction.

The Oral Health Laboratory Project aims to investigate the mechanisms underlying chronic oral pathologies (such as caries and periodontitis), oral pain and rare disorders related to mineral metabolism that affect both the skeleton and tooth mineralisation (e.g. X-linked hypophosphataemia, pseudohypoparathyroidism and tight junction-related disorders). The teams are developing new therapies to repair oro-facial defects resulting from these chronic and rare pathologies. These therapies include tissue engineering strategies, new medical devices and biomaterials. Particular attention is also given to dental development defects related to environmental factors such as exposure to pesticides and stress. Furthermore, we are exploring the outcomes of new treatments for rare disorders, such as gene therapy and biotherapies. The Oral Health research project is translational, combining in vitro approaches (3D cultures, co-cultures, bone and tooth organoids, etc.) and preclinical approaches (mouse, rat and porcine models), as well as clinical research on patient cohorts with rare or chronic disorders. All our scientific endeavours are bolstered by the on-site presence of a microCT core facility equipped with both in vivo and in vitro machines. This facility enables thorough reporting of bone or tooth microarchitecture, as well as longitudinal follow-up of growth or repair processes in rodent models.
